Introduction

Aegina, the second largest island in the Saronic Gulf, is a favourite destination: its proximity to Athens, its gentle light and mild climate have made it a favourite for visitors, many of whom are artists. For around the last 130 years, Aegina has obtained is ‘own’ product: Aegina pistachio nuts arrived on the island at the end of the 19th century and won themselves a special place in the Aeginan landscape and economy.
